With whole oats, almond flour, and raw cacao, this smoothie is a delicious and super healthy way to start the day. Raw cacao adds similar flavor but contains more protein, fiber, iron and magnesium than regular cocoa. Ripe bananas act as a natural sweetener, eliminating the need for added sweetener. Peel over-ripe bananas and store them in a resealable gallon sized bag in the freezer for whenever you want a smoothie.
Ingredients
1 ripe banana, frozen (if frozen banana not available, substitute one raw ripe banana and 1 cup ice cubes)
3 heaping tablespoons whole raw or steel cut oats
2 heaping tablespoons almond flour (alternatively, if using high speed blender such as Vitamix, can add 2 tablespoons whole almonds)
1 tablespoon raw cacao
Unsweetened plain or vanilla plant milk (such as almond, oat, coconut or soy) to achieve desired consistency, about 1 cup
Instructions
Add all ingredients to blender. Blend according to blender directions until fully mixed and consistency is smooth and creamy. Makes one generous smoothie. Recipe can be doubled or tripled for additional servings.
For a Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana smoothie, omit almond powder and add 1 tablespoon peanut butter.
